GENERAL INFORMATION

Baslam is a low plant with multiannual routes,  light woody branches and yellow flowers blossoming from June till September. The therapeutical propertiess of balsam were known and  renowned  in ancient times. Therefore Galenos and Dioskourides suggested it as a diuretic, healing , emmenagogue and haemostatic.  In the Middle Ages the plant was considered to posses magical powers, especially if it was collected on the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, on 24th of June .According to popular beliefs, balsam was the herb  to put away the evil spirits through its smell.  It consisted a basic substance used in the mummification of the dead procedure, where the word “embalming” comes from. It has been used as a raw material for the production of yellow and red paint intended  for the coloration of wool and silk yarns.

  • Appropriate for soothing  stomach-enteric disorders.
