SUNFLOWER

IN GENERAL

The cultivation of sunflower were known from 3000 b.c. The sunflowers are tall plants with large leaves, oval, toothed on the periphery and hairy. The genus name is due to the fact that the inflorescence (head) follows the sun throughout the day and turns back to the east in the morning. This move that is due to the bending of the stem, stops after flowering and fertilization of the flower, and the heads remain facing east.

From the seeds of sunflower derives the sunflower oil. An oil used in cooking and in cosmetics.
